Our Unique Strengths
Our strengths are many. Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) is an experienced lead partner providing a full-time on-site staff person and connection to the international Human Rights community. HREA has brought in a range of speakers to meet with students, to share their personal histories and their career experience. HREA staff organized a Holocaust Remembrance Day, and a Human Rights Day. Our teaching staff is smart and experienced; they have developed great instincts for student learning and social/emotional. Staff bring a range of interests (running a theater club, an Amnesty International chapter, and many others). Teachers are energetic: over and above teaching their classes they led over two dozen field trips to colleges, Lincoln Center, and museums. The whole staff has built a community in which they really support each other – which is very unusual in a public school. Our students are energetic, smart and engaged, and attend school at above a 90% rate. They run a “School Ambassadors” program that will greet you when you come to visit. Their families are deeply concerned with their children’s futures, maintain an active PTA and stay in close touch with teachers. The DOE and in particular Chancellor Klein offer our School a high degree of autonomy and great support
